Committee Of Trustees

How Our Committee Of Trustees Works

An experienced committee, we meet at least three times a year to review applications from eligible members of the trade, or their surviving partners, who find themselves in financial difficulties, due to problems such as sickness, redundancy, or age.

All Trustees are volunteers, who believe in the aims of the Society and are committed to helping those in the trade who need support. Trustees are not paid for the work they do for the Society.

Appointed annually from our committee members, the Chair & Vice-Chair serve for 2 years.

The Honorary Treasurer & Secretary appointments are approved annually, and they can remain in post for as long as the committee feel appropriate.

The Honorary Treasurer is an unpaid Trustee, who assists the committee with all necessary financial matters, attends meetings regarding investments and produces the accounts.

The Secretary is remunerated and is not a Trustee. She runs the day-to-day affairs of the charity, communicates with applicants & beneficiaries, and organises payments based on the decisions of the Trustees.

Structure Of The Committee

Our Trustees are individuals with a broad knowledge of the watch & clock trade, with diverse backgrounds, ages and gender. The committee includes Appointed Representatives from respected trade bodies and Independent Trustees. Currently the committee comprises the following Trustees:

2  Representatives from the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers
1  Representative from the British Watch & Clock Makers’ Guild
1  Representative from the British Horological Institute
8  Independent Trustees

Collectively, the committee has many hundreds of years’ experience in the trade.

Our committee continues to seek suitable new Trustees to join the important work of the Society.

Confidentiality

All dealings with applicants and beneficiaries are confidential and the Trustees take confidentiality very seriously; more information can be found in our Privacy Policy.

Regulation

We, like all charities, are regulated by the Charity Commission a government body which supports and monitors charities, to encourage best practise and ensure compliance with statutory requirements. All our Trustees are registered with the Charity Commission, and our Trustee Report and Accounts are sent to them annually.
